Ibn Sina. The Sounds of the Heart
The Sounds of the Heart
The patient himself did not want to say a word. No matter how they persuaded him, he lay silently on the bed, turning away from everyone, refusing food and water.
The worried vizier ordered to send for Ibn Sina.
Such a person was found and brought to the patient.
Ibn Sina, sitting next to the young man, placed his hand on his pulse and instructed the visitor to list the names of all the streets of Bukhara one by one, without haste.
When one of the streets was named, the young man’s heart began to beat faster, and his face turned completely pale.
Then Ibn Sina ordered to bring him a person who knew all the neighborhoods of that street.
Such a person was brought.
Ibn Sina again placed his hand on the patient’s forehead and felt his pulse. The person began to name the neighborhoods of that street one by one, and when he reached one of the neighborhoods, the patient’s pulse quickened again, and his face turned yellow like saffron.
Then Ibn Sina ordered to bring another person who would know by heart all the houses and palaces in that neighborhood. Such a person was brought, and he began to list all the houses in that neighborhood one by one with all their features, and when he reached one of the houses, the patient’s pulse beat faster than before, and his face turned pale again.
At that moment, Ibn Sina ordered to bring one of the inhabitants of that house to him. He was brought, and he began to list everyone who lives in the house. When he mentioned the name of a girl who lived there, the patient’s pulse jumped, his heart raced wildly, and his face turned crimson…
The vizier’s son was simply in love…
Finding the girl was not particularly difficult. She was invited to the house, she began to take care of the patient, and he quickly recovered from his unusual ailment.
