How to Learn Pharmaceutical Chemistry More Easily

On this page, students will find several poems by Tatyana Vitalyevna Dzhan, who worked in our department for 7 years as an assistant, senior lecturer, and associate professor. The poems are dedicated to pharmaceutical chemistry.
As far as I know, these are the first such works in this field.

From my many years of experience teaching pharmaceutical chemistry, we can judge that such unconventional methods of memorizing complex material are the most effective.

General Methods of Drug Analysis
– 1 –
May your ship never sink in the gale,
Nor groan when the winds hit the sail,
Let it ride on the waves, bold and free,
Finding courses through every sea.
Some may dream of a pirate’s life,
Or an acrobat’s balance in strife,
But your mission is noble and grand
To raise Pharmacy high in this land.
It’s a challenge, I know it’s a test,
So I wish you the strength for your quest.

– 2 –
I wish you the will and the grace,
And patience to keep up the pace.
May failures and troubles you meet
Be solved like a task, neat and sweet.
Divide all the grief by the titer,
To make every liter feel brighter,
Share joy with a friend, as you should,
In test tubes for all that is good.
Test the clarity, let it be clear,
Then write the Conclusion right here.

– 3 –
Don’t forget if the color is wrong
A “Negative” answer is strong.
How is density? Doing its part?
Did the flask keep the truth in its heart?
Is the joy acid-base? Is it slight?
You must give the answer tonight!
Does it change how the thoughts are designed?
Is it refracted or rotated in mind?
Does it boil, or freeze, or just melt?
How is each physical constant felt?

– 4 –
Can this joy be illuminated through,
Without losing the “Pheasant’s” bright hue?
(Where does the “Nasty Pheasant” hide?)
Our sporting interest is deep inside
Though the bird isn’t mean in its flight,
As it soars o’er the joy and the light,
It might scatter its feathers around,
And the spectrum is there to be found.

Reaction with Ferric Chloride
– 1 –
Here sits Ferric chloride, see,
In a jacket, red as can be.
– 2 –
To the acids he drew near,
Found a bond that’s very clear:
– 3 –
Acetates turn deep dark red,
Benzoates turn pale instead, (indicating the formation of the flesh-colored precipitate)
– 4 –
The rest is up to you to say
An “A” with pluses is on your way!

Chemical Riddle-1.

With alcohol the deal was signed,
But a pungent scent was left behind.
To keep the “H” at home, they tried,
While water served as a faithful guide.

The others joined the tender’s line,
To make the chemical reaction shine.
Who is the master of this scene?
It’s

Chemical Riddle-2.

My dear Sulfanil, I’m told,
You were sulfuric acid of old.
But then you bought a house so small,
And changed the roof above the wall.
Then Phenol came to pay a call,
And found the entrance through the hall.
Ortho- para-wires were spun,
Around the flagpole, one by one.
A drop of alkali was the sign,
It turned to red, a shade so fine
Joined forever, heart and soul,
A bond no force can now control.
                      What reaction is this?
