CHOKEBERRY (ARONIA)

 

     The fruits of the black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) are characterized by a significant concentration of several vitamins: vitamin K (phylloquinone) (66.7% of the Daily Value [DV] per 100 g), ascorbic acid (58.6%), beta-carotene (48.6%), alpha-tocopherol (10.0%), and pantothenic acid (10.0%).

 

     Aronia berries contain substantial quantities of specific macro-, micro-, and ultratrace elements: cobalt (150.0% DV per 100 g), selenium (45.5%), silicon (33.3%), manganese (25.0%), vanadium (22.5%), lead (20.0%), iodine (17.3%), molybdenum (12.4%), and iron (10.2%).

 

    Chokeberry fruits are also rich in carbohydrates; specifically, the mono- and disaccharide fraction (21.6% DV), which is predominantly composed of glucose (43.0%) and fructose (16.9%). The nutritional matrix includes dietary fiber (21.0%) and pectic substances (10.2%). They contain minor quantities of starch (0.1 g per 100 g) and sucrose (ranging from 0.1–2.0 g).

 

     The total purine base content per 100 g constitutes 6.7% of the daily allowance.

 

     It should be noted that aronia berries exhibit a notable capacity for the bioaccumulation of the toxic ultratrace element lead (20.0% of the daily requirement per 100 g).
